FAQ about MOT

  • Cars (up to 8 passenger seats)
  • Motor caravans
  • Quads (max unladen weight 400kg - for goods vehicles 550kg and max net power of 15kw)
  • Dual purpose vehicles
  • Private hire and public service vehicles (up to 8 seats)
  • Ambulances and taxis
  • Private passenger vehicles and ambulances (9 to 12 passenger seats)
  • Goods vehicles (up to 3,000kg design gross weight)

Class 7 vehicles

  • Goods vehicles (vehicles in the 3.0 to 3.5 tonne weight range, including vans, pickups and transits)
The test takes 45 minutes, however please allow up to an hour in case any minor repairs are needed. Please arrive at least 5 minutes before your appointment (you can bring your car in any time from opening onwards).

The test is designed to ensure that your vehicle meets road safety and environmental standards.

You should be aware that the MOT certificate is not a guarantee of the general mechanical condition of your car - you should have your car serviced regularly to maintain its mechanical condition.

Should your vehicle need a little help to pass the test, you can rest assured that we will do our best to complete repairs on site on the same day . Any repairs and charges will be notified to you upfront, so no nasty surprises!

If your vehicle is undergoing its first MOT then a V5C vehicle registration certificate (log book) is required, this document is also required if your vehicle has had a change of registration plate since its last MOT. In all other instances no documentation is required.
Many failures we see every day could be prevented by drivers carrying out some simple checks before bringing their vehicle in. Common avoidable faults include light bulbs, tyre condition and pressure, mirrors, wipers and washers. See our tips on how to make sure your car passes its MOT first time.
If your car fails, it must be repaired and retested. You cannot legally drive your car on the road until the repairs have been made and a certificate issued. Most repairs can be carried out onsite on the same day at the test centre, and we will always advise you upfront about any work that needs to be done.
